Brown V.S. Board of Education was a case that was called in 1954 by Oliver L.Brown. He talked about how discriminatory nature of racial segregation had been aganinst the 14th amandment which had been about equal protection with all citizens.
Brown v.s. board of education was not just about kids and their education it was also about discrimination aganinst sterotypes.
Rosa Parks "All I was doing was trying to get home from work."
She walked to the bus station, then dragged herself onto the bus. She went to the open seat in the front row of the colored section. Not the front of the bus, the front of the back! Her refusal to let the white man take her seat was not planned. She was not trying to make a political, social or economic statement. Rosa Parks was a normal, human woman who could have done any number of things in the moment she was asked to give up her seat. She chose to stay. And, that decision changed the course of history.
The Great Depression
The Great Depression happened in 1929. It was a hard time for a lot of people especially blacks. Cotton prices went down to 6 cents a pound. 2/3s of black farmers earned nothing or went into debt. Alot of people lefted their homes to go to cities. In Mississippi blacks traditionally were employed with certain jobs on trains were ambushed and killed by several unemployed white men who were seeking train jobs. The United States Supreme Court began to favoring black challenges in segregation. For the first time since Reconstruction, the federal government supported blacks and made a concerted effort to incorporate them into the mainstream of American life. Black voters responded to the change of heart of white americans by switching from the Republican Party to the Democratic. Black civil rights organizations began to increase their activity and demands for their rights as citizens of the United States.
